Our Geelong Pastoral Healthcare partner operates a complimentary ‘Promoting Healthy Lifestyles – Fruit and Vege box drop’ right to the doorstep of families identified by the PHN team.
On Tuesday Marty, who handpicks the fruit from the Melbourne Market each week, called to say he had one spare box and asked if I could recommend a family to whom he could deliver it to.
On phoning the particular family, it was discovered that the Single Mum on a carers Pension , caring for her brother with aquired brain injury and her adult son with severe Rheumatoid arthritis; had been recently diagnosed with uncontrolled Hypertension.
She is currently living on fruit and vegetables in an effort to manage her condition.
She was overwhelmed with the offer and within an hour Marty had delivered a delicious box complete with the recipe of the week to their house.
Just another way PH teams are promoting healthy lifestyles and outreaching to the under served carers in our community.
