Leonie Rastas , Pastoral Nurse Coordinator and Australian Delegate to the World Forum for Parish Nurses will travel to St Louis Missouri on September 24th to attend the 23rd Annual Westburg Symposiun “Opening Doors to Wholeness’. She will also attend the World Forum Dinner on the eve of the Conference, joining hundreds of other Pastoral Nurses from around the world.
The Geelong Pastoral Healthcare Network team are soon to open a ‘Wellness Centre’ at 264 Shannon ave Geelong West. The property has 5 spaces for PHNA projects and services to be offered and will be open 5 days per week……….Stay tuned for further details

Two of our Pastoral Nurses, Carmel Mcleod and Leonie Rastas have joined the teaching staff at Australian Catholic University in Melbourne. They are tutoring the students in the core subject , “ Spirituality in Healthcare” for undergraduate nurses and midwives. A wonderful lead into the specialty of Pastoral Nursing.

Jo Veta Wescott, Director of Kansas Parish Nurse Ministries from Witchita Kansas and Dr Myrna Cassimere from New Orleans will be in Melbourne to present modules from the Basic preparation for Pastoral Nursing Curriculum on November 18,19, & 20th 2009. On Tuesday Marty, who handpicks the fruit from the Melbourne Market each week, called to say he had one spare box and asked if I could recommend a family to whom he could deliver it to.
On phoning the particular family, it was discovered that the Single Mum on a carers Pension , caring for her brother with aquired brain injury and her adult son with severe Rheumatoid arthritis; had been recently diagnosed with uncontrolled Hypertension.
She is currently living on fruit and vegetables in an effort to manage her condition.
She was overwhelmed with the offer and within an hour Marty had delivered a delicious box complete with the recipe of the week to their house.
Just another way PH teams are promoting healthy lifestyles and outreaching to the under served carers in our community.
